In line with the aspiration of the new state government, the Sabah State Library has been moved from the Ministry of Health and Wellbeing to the Ministry of Education and Innovation. This portfolio is under the purview of YB Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob assisted by two Assistant Ministers namely YB Tuan Mohammad Mohamarin and YB Puan Jenifer Lasimbang. The Permanent Secretary is Datuk Bruno Vun.

For its one hundred years anniversary celebration, Finland gifted its population with a 98-milllion-Euro library located at the city centre across the Finnish Parliament house in Helsinki.

Back home in Kota Kinabalu we also have an iconic library located at Tanjung Aru. Although smaller in size and cost a lot less, this library represent the same aspirations of the Finns. We want to inculcate the reading habit and build a nation of well-read and well-informed society. We should emulate the Finns whom hold high regard of libraries. With a population of only 5.5 million, the Finns borrowed a staggering 68 million books.

We shall commence our Tanjung Aru library service on April 1, 2019. This library will be opened 7 days a week including public holidays! You have no excuse not to come visit us. Since Christmas is just around the corner, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our library patrons a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2019!
