The International Day of People with Disability (IDPD) is celebrated on 3rd December every year and has been promoted by the United Nations since 1992. The theme for this year’s IDPD is “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”. This theme focuses on the empowering persons with disabilities for the inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.

The Sabah State Library had collaborated with UNICEF last month in organizing the “We Are All Special” event on 10th November 2018, where this event has exposed the people with disabilities to the outside environments as well as to give awareness and a better understanding to the public that a person with a disability can be a vibrant member of society, as it happens that the entirely healthy are not always quite aware of this fact.

Therefore, let us remove the barriers to their inclusion so that they will be empowered to participate fully in societal life and be more aware of their rights, dignity and welfare. Check out the recommended books below to learn more about people with disabilities.
